Portuguese manager Carlos Carvalhal doesn’t seem very excited with the idea of seeing one of his country’s’ biggest talents joining West Bromwich Albion.
Frequently linked to Premier League clubs since the start of his career, William Carvalho keeps showing potential at Sporting, and it’s West Brom who had their interest made public most recently.
But Carvalhal thinks Carvalho could be moving to somewhere better: “William Carvalho is a player for a big club, a top one,” he told Radio Renascença. “West Brom are not a top club but being in the best league in the world at a medium club isn’t negative for any player.
“He has the ability to be in a team with other goals, but if he comes to West Brom he’ll join the Premier League which is a great stage and where almost every player would like to be.”
West Brom have reportedly already made an attempt to sign Carvalho for €30m last summer, but had their bid rejected. The player has a €45m release clause, and Sporting won’t make him much cheaper than that.
In the same interview, Carvalhal has also explained his situation at Sheffield Wednesday, where despite making no pressure for the club to extend his contract, he’s hopeful that he and his staff will be able to continue their work.
