Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a page-long story on the future of Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier.
According to the outlet, Sporting are currently ‘studying’ the possibility of signing him as a free agent next summer.
Dier’s contract with Tottenham expires at the end of the season, and that makes him a market opportunity for the Lions.
Still, Sporting don’t want to do anything crazy about his salary, and will only carry on with the operation if he accepts to decrease his wages and take less than €2m gross per year.
Dier recently spoke about going back to Lisbon at the end of his career, and according to the report, that has been ‘taken into account’ by the Lions.
The Tottenham player was brought up in Portugal, having been part of Sporting’s academy, and even speaks fluent Portuguese when talking to the local media.
We must recall that recent reports from Italy have also been claiming there are Serie A clubs wanting him, so we may see an interesting battle for the 29-year-old at the end of the season.
