Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz has ‘caught the attention’ of Manchester City with his impressive performances at the beginning of this season.
That’s according to Fichajes, who say Manchester City are one of several sides looking at a potential move for the 20-year-old.
They explain that Wirtz has made his way back on to Barcelona’s agenda after an interesting start to the season that sees Bayer Leverkusen sitting top of the Bundesliga table.
They’ve also progressed in the DFB Pokal and won their opening game of the Europa League, marking an excellent start that has earned them plenty of attention.
He already has three goals and three assists in seven games and those are the kind of numbers that get you noticed by the big sides.
Real Madrid and Manchester City are already showing ‘renewed interest’ and Barcelona have joined the list too, keeping a close eye on his development this season.
A deal seems unlikely for them given Wirtz is tied to a contract until 2027 that doesn’t contain a release clause, meaning his price tag could skyrocket to €100m or more.
That’s currently unaffordable for the Catalans, but not for the likes of Manchester City, a fact which may put them slightly ahead of their competition at this early stage.
