On Friday Catalan newspaper Sport reported that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino had met up with Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu at a restaurant in the Spanish city.
The Tottenham manager is a serious candidate for the Barcelona job, continued Sport, but that was judged that upon betting odds.
Now the other Barcelona friendly newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, have clarified the situation. They say the two met at one of Barcelona’s Farga restaurants by accident. They didn’t go together, they weren’t set to dine together, and it wasn’t really a meeting between Pochettino and Bartomeu.
It was a ‘chance encounter’, explain Mundo Deportivo, and Pochettino did speak to the Barcelona big cheese, but only because the pair have known each other for years.
Unless Bartmomeu said something like ‘Hello Mauricio my old friend, fancy a job?’ then there’s nothing for Tottenham to worry about here.
