With Youssef Chermiti now standing close to his move to Everton, it seems he won’t be sorely missed at Sporting.

The Lions do see good potential in the 19-year-old, but with the recent signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry City, the teenager was unlikely to start many matches this season.

Some comments about it were made today in CMTV, with pundits Fernando Mendes and Diamantino Miranda giving their views of the situation.

Mendes started by claiming that the transfer to Everton is a ‘golden opportunity’ for Chermiti, as the train ‘may not pass again’. Then he explained that the player would lose space in Sporting’s squad anyway.

“I think he will have some difficulties, in my opinion, in starting at Sporting. He seems to have a good future, but he’s young, he’s still a little green to be Sporting’s starter. Of course, he’s a useful player, but he’s running out of space with the arrival of the Swedish and Paulinho.”

Something similar was said by Miranda, who claimed Chermiti would’ve been Sporting’s third option in attack this season.

“Chermiti, in my opinion, was going to be the third option. With the arrival of Gyokeres and with Paulinho, it was going to be the third option. It didn’t mean I didn’t play. On the technical side, I don’t think Chermiti was the player Sporting needs.”

Reports from the Portuguese media today claimed that Sporting and Everton have an agreement for Chermiti to move for a fee of €15m plus €5m in bonuses. It’s claimed that the player has his bags packed to make his move to England, even though some personal details are still to be sorted with the Toffees.
