Newcastle United could tempt Atlético Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco with a transfer ‘again’ this summer after showing interest in him in the past.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who cover the player’s future today and a potential move to Barcelona.
They explain that the Catalans still have a purchase option on the Belgian, which they negotiated when Memphis Depay joined Atlético in the January transfer window.
That, which is worth €16-19m depending on which club you ask, is set to expire on June 30th and at the moment it appears Barcelona will not be activating it.
There is, though, the possibility that an offer could arrive from the Premier League, where clubs have been interested in him for a while.
Newcastle are one of those and there is a belief that they ‘could tempt him again’ by making an offer that would come close to the clause in his contract.
That’s yet to happen and Atlético are willing to make him an offer to renew his current deal, but they are ‘not at their best financially’ at this moment in time and so their offer is not enough to tempt the player.
The opposite can be said of Newcastle, of course, who have plenty of money to spend and a need to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad ahead of a season in the Champions League.
Whether they do make a bid remains to be seen but the feeling in Spain is that there is every possibility that they could after being keen in the past, making this the ideal time to make a move.
