With Portimonense fullback Fahd Moufi expected to join Burnley as a free agent this summer, Portuguese newspaper Record today features an interesting story about his future.
The outlet had an interview with Ricardo Pessoa, who was an assistant coach at his club until last summer, and knows the 27-year-old very well.
The now Lusitânia managed showed big faith in Moufi’s potential, claiming he’s already proven that he’s up to playing in the Premier League.
“He had been proving to be a player for other championships and for clubs of another dimension,” Ricardo Pessoa told Record.
“Then, depending on his season, he’ll be able to do an analysis and see if he will be able to make a qualitative leap in his career.”
Again asked if Moufi can think of a bigger move next year, Pessoa made it clear that despite the player’s potential to do so, he better get focused on his first season with Burnley, and only then get concerned about his future.
“It’s important, at this moment, for him to adapt well to the Premier League, gain his space and… think short term.”
Moufi joined Portimonense back in 2020 on a free move from Tondela. He had a total of 96 matches played for the club, with 33 of these appearances being made this season.
The agreement with Burnley has been reported since January, so even though the transfer hasn’t been made official yet, it shall be no surprise if, or even when, the Clarets get to announce it.
