Pierluigi Gollini’s loan move to Atalanta from Aston Villa in the last window hasn’t gone to plan, with the youngster still waiting to make his debut for the Serie A side. However, the door could now open for the Aston Villa loanee after Atalanta were yesterday humiliated by Inter Milan.
Bershia was installed as Atalanta’s first choice when Marco Sportiello signed for Fiorentina in January, even though it was expected Gollini would be given the role. The 21-year-old has had to watch from the sidelines, but could finally get his chance after the thrashing by Inter Milan.
Not covering himself in glory, Berish gave a penalty away for Inter’s second goal and was lucky to stay on the pitch, perhaps he’ll wish he hadn’t.
There’s been recent speculation Berisha may return to his parent club Lazio in the summer because Atalanta aren’t prepared to pay the €6.5m asking price to make the move permanent. With Gollini on loan next season too, his position could be considered move favourable in the medium term.
Gollini only signed for Aston Villa in the last summer window, and started the season as Roberto Di Matteo’s number one. However, after Steve Bruce replaced the Italian boss Gollini eventually lost his place in the Aston Villa starting eleven, and was then loaned to Atalanta in January.
