At the weekend Brescia suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of Hellas Verona. The Serie B side have now been dragged into a serious relegation fight following the defeat, which could have implications for Leeds United.
In the past 12 months Brescia has become an attractive club to invest in, with Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino linked with the club in recent weeks. Only last week we covered reports from Italy that Cellino would pull out of talks to purchase Brescia if they were relegated.
If the Leeds United chief were to buy the club his plan would be to achieve promotion within two years because of the current lucrative TV deal for Serie A sides. Dropping down to Lega Pro would derail these plans, and Cellino is likely to walk away from a deal.
The Italian media claim Cellino is prepared to sell Leeds United to Andrea Radrizzani in the summer, and is likely to use the money to purchase Brescia. The Leeds United owner is willing to sell his 50% of his stake to his compatriot, and the price would depend on whether the Championship side gain promotion to the Premier League or not. Radrizzani recently bought half of Cellino’s shares in Leeds United.
