Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has toldĀ that he refuses to discuss his future amid recent reports linking him to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 37-year-old has guided the Clarets to promotion back to the Premier League in his first season at Turf Moor. This has resulted in reports stating Spurs have identified him as a managerial target.

Over at Tottenham, things havenā€™t gone well for them this season. They showed Antonio Conte the exit door on March 26th and appointed Cristian Stellini as acting head coach.

The north London club have already been linked to a few candidates and Kompanyā€™s name is in that list.

On this topic, he said:Ā ā€œIn my first interview this season I said that I would never talk about the future. I have nothing to gain from that. Suppose I answer ‘yes’ to the question whether I stay and then something changes… then I am a liar.

“So, I don’t bother with those kinds of questions. This morning I just got back to the club early and tonight I’m going home late. I keep working hard to win games. That is the most respectful thing to the people of this club. Chelsea and Tottenham? Not involved at all.”

Burnley are currently leading the Championship table and are 10 points ahead of second placed Sheffield United. They need to avoid a defeat against QPR on Saturday to clinch the second division title. Kompany, meanwhile, is enjoying life at the English club.

ā€œSometimes it’s a different sport. There are guys walking around who are 20cm taller and also 20kg heavier (grins),ā€Ā Kompany explained.

ā€œIt’s especially hard to stay consistent because there are 46 games in a season. We’ve played 42 now and it just keeps coming. It’s fun because the infrastructure is good, the players get to a good level and you learn a lot as a coach.”
