Over the past week or so, there has been some talk that Newcastle United could make a move for Real Betis’ Nabil Fékir.

We have covered two reports from Spain about it, with two very different angles about whether or not the player could make the switch to St James’ Park.

The first came from Fichajes, who stated Newcastle were preparing a €45m offer for the player, going as far as stating he was interested in a move to the Premier League.

However, a few days later, Estadio Deportivo tried to shut the whole thing down, with it said Fékir and Real Betis weren’t thinking about parting ways, and the La Liga club didn’t fear a bid from the Magpies, who certainly wouldn’t pay €45m for him.

Well, TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy come in with an exclusive on Thursday, seemingly corroborating all of that in one article.

They start off by saying Newcastle are ‘ready to sink the blow’ for Fékir, with Real Betis having set a price tag of €45m for their star.

The problem, however, is that ‘there is a far amount of distance’ between that and what Eddie Howe’s side want to pay, as they value him at ‘about €10m less’, mostly due to his age (nearly 30).

Down the player’s end, ‘there is already ample availability for the Premier League and for a transfer to Newcastle’, meaning he wouldn’t mind the move.

We’ll have to see what comes of all this, but it’s something worth keeping an eye on as we head into the World Cup break, when transfer talk is likely to be rife with no club football being played.
