Last week, we covered an article in Spain claiming that Newcastle United were interested in Nabil Fékir, and could make a bid of €45m for him.

The 29-year-old was apparently open to the idea of playing in the Premier League, but with a contract until 2026 at Real Betis, the La Liga club were well protected.

Well, this has been backed up by Estadio Deportivo, who did a bit of digging themselves about the Fékir to Newcastle rumours.

The outlet state that they have been ‘in contact with sources very close to the player and with others’ from Betis themselves, and both are ‘denying that this possibility is true’.

In fact, over at the La Liga side, ‘they don’t feel any fear’ about Newcastle’s potential millions, and know the player is playmaker is happy where he is.

It’s then pointed out that the Magpies have a ‘very fluid relationship’ with the Frenchman’s agency, and were in talks with them about Carlos Soler a few months ago.

That would have been the ideal time to discuss a Fékir transfer, but they didn’t, and that’s because ‘they do not plan to pay €45m for the French star, nor do they bother to offer less’.

Therefore, it seems that any claim of Newcastle making a move for the Betis star in January, or anytime going forward, seem to be wide of the mark.
