Announced by Watford at one point, Marseille’s Pape Gueye controversially cancelled that deal to sign for the Ligue 1 side.

A whole fiasco followed the situation, but the midfielder is firmly settled in the south of France, where he is legally employed, but that hasn’t stopped clubs from England taking an interest in him.

This is according to Jeunes Footeux, who state both Leeds United and Southampton are keen on the midfielder.

The issue for Gueye these days, which could play in the hands of the Elland Road side and the Saints, is that he’s fourth in the pecking order of midfielders under Igor Tudor, behind Valentin Rongier, Mattéo Guendouzi and Jordan Veretout.

That limits his time on the pitch, with him appearing in the starting XI just three times in all competitions, which isn’t exactly what he will have wanted.

Add into the fold the fact Marseille will be looking to bring in some funds, and Leeds and Southampton could be handed the Senegal international on a silver platter.

The website explain that ‘numerous European teams, notably English ones, are attentive to the situation’ of the 23-year-old, which is where the two Premier League sides come in.

Among the keen clubs, there are ‘notably Leeds and especially Southampton’, with the latter wanting to ‘take advantage of the existing contacts’ following the transfer of Duje Caleta-Car to get ahead of the game.

Unfortunately for Marseille, Southampton would ‘prefer a loan with a view to buy’ while the Ligue 1 side are wanting a straight transfer.

Perhaps Leeds can offer them that? We’ll have to wait and see.
