Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ki-Jana However has been labelled ‘a bad buy’ for PSV Eindhoven, as his loan spell there fails to work out.
The defender joined the Dutch club on loan in the summer as he sought regular first-team football that wasn’t on offer under then Wolves manager Bruno Lage. The idea was that his time in the Netherlands could be something of a kickstarter for a career that had started brightly but faded quickly at Molineux.
That has not been the case for him, though, with just five appearances to his name in the Eredivisie so far and 209 minutes of action.
Indeed, it’s been something of a rough ride for the 20-year-old, who has faced constant criticism since the summer for his performances and even had his home in Eindhoven burgled.
All in all, the loan spell from Wolves has been nothing short of a disaster and according to journalist Valentijn Driessen, his move can be labelled a failure.
“Walter Benítez is not my goalkeeper, because he always lets one through, or four, but he is better than Drommel. So, I don’t put him among the mis purchases.
“But that Branthwaite, that Everton mercenary. They were proud at PSV that he kicked a ball into the stands against Rangers in a ruthless manner.
“But he also does that when he doesn’t need to! Then he just shoots them into the stands too. He played one good game, that was against Feyenoord. Then he did quite nicely.
“And Hoever, I also think that’s a mis-buy. That’s not a player PSV needs, that’s clear. But for the rest: Xavi Simons, I think that’s a really good buy. El Ghazi is a good buy and Luuk de Jong is of course a top purchase.”
