Things are going well for Maxime Colin.

Arriving from RSC Anderlecht two seasons ago for a rather hefty £1.3m, the French right-back is enjoying life at Brentford, now a mainstay in Dean Smith’s team.

Making an appearance in all but two of The Bees’ fixtures this season, the 25-year-old is currently, with the rest of the team, preparing a very important FA Cup clash against Chelsea on Saturday.

Interviewed at length by Football365 in France, Colin explained that, considering the Blues got the home draw, ‘a draw would feel a bit like a win’, and Brentford would go to Stamford Bridge with nothing to lose.

Loved by the fans, who even created a song for him, the right-back also spoke about his ambitions for the future, including his desire to play in the Premier League at some stage.

He said: “At one point, when you get to England, you want to play in the Premier League. That could happen via the play-offs with Brentford, leaving for a team in the Championship more used to playing at the top of the table or directly going to the Premier League.

“I really want to play in the Premier League. If it’s with Brentford, great, but I’m not going to get stuck here. I’ll see the possibilities during the transfer window. If I leave, it’ll be for something that I can’t refuse, because I am very happy here.”

Currently 15th in the Championship with 33 points from their first 27 games, Brentford are a good 12 points off the first playoff place, occupied, as things stand, by Sheffield Wednesday.

Who knows, though? A good result against Antonio Conte’s men on Saturday could be the catalyst needed to kickstart a great run in the league, and that playoff berth could be within reach in no time.
