Early on Sunday morning, The Chronicle posted an article on their website reporting an alleged Sunderland interest in Anderlecht’s Kara Mbodji.
David Moyes’ side are currently struggling with a lack of depth in the Premier League, with players out for the Africa Cup of Nations, as well as eight injuries in their first-team squad, and with little to no funds available, a loan is all they can hope for at this stage.
However, the story from Belgium is very different, with Dernière Here reporting the 28-year-old won’t be leaving Anderlecht this January, and is expected to see out the season with his current club.
Considering the player is in Africa with Senegal representing his country in the international tournament, even if Sunderland did sign him, he most likely wouldn’t be available for a couple of weeks.
With Sunderland desperately needing reinforcements now, a move for Kara makes little sense, and the bottom line in Belgium is that he’s not going anywhere.
