New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is pushing the potential move for Frenkie de Jong and ‘wants to have him back by his side’ at Old Trafford.
That’s according to Sport, who say Manchester United have made the ‘strongest bid’ for the Barcelona midfielder so far.
They explain that while the Catalans are looking to raise around €50m from sales of around ten players they don’t want; they are also skirting around potentially bigger exits.
De Jong is one of them, and he has ‘more suitors’ than others in the squad, including Manchester United, who are keen via Ten Hag.
Barcelona are ‘willing to sell’, but they have made it clear they will only do so for a huge amount, optimistically hoping for €90m. They will perhaps negotiate for €80m but it’s stated they won’t go beneath that figure.
An offer of €65-70m plus bonuses could surely test that.
Manager Xavi does want the midfielder in his team and has made that known to Joan Laporta and the sports management at the club.
He, though, understands that if a ‘dizzying offer’ were to arrive from someone like Manchester United, then the player will be departing the Camp Nou.
