On Wednesday, we covered claims made by SportBild that Manchester United are in the picture to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji.
The defender’s contract runs down in 2023 and has not found an agreement with BVB over an extension so far. He earns around €5m per year and the club’s chiefs, Sebastian Kehl and Michael Zorc, would like to propose a new deal to him.
That’s according to Bild, who add the Bundesliga side are ready to offer the centre-back an improved deal worth €8m per year.
However, the Dortmund leaders are unwilling to meet the 26-year-old’s demands and this ‘problem could now solve itself’, with a help of the Red Devils, who are ‘serious’ about the player.
It’s claimed the Ralf Rangnick led United are trying to lure Akanji, with a four-year deal that includes an annual salary of €15m. A transfer fee of €25-30m is also ‘under discussion’.
The Premier League is the defender’s ‘dream’ league and United are his ‘dream club’.
Basically, if Manchester United are keen on acquiring Akanji’s services, Bild explain a transfer is ‘very likely’ to take shape in the summer.
