This morning, when the Argentine media had been reporting River Plate’s efforts for the signing of Valentin Castellanos from New York City FC, there was some information regarding Leeds United’s interest in the player.
Outlet La Pagina Millonaria claimed that while negotiating with the Buenos Aires side, his agents received a call from the Elland Road club, who’d like to sign him in the summer.
That story claimed River Plate would be Castellano’s priority, even though they’d still need to reach an agreement with the MLS side. And now it turns out that the negotiations apparently collapsed.
Merlo adds that New York City FC are now set to improve Castellanos’ contract and then look to sell him to Europe in June. So that’s definitely a great chance for Leeds United to go after him.
River Plate’s bid for the striker had been of US$11m, paid in several instalments, which was the biggest issue for a deal. The story regarding the Whites’ interest said they offer US$14m, so the MLS club probably know they can make more if selling him to the Premier League.
