Former Watford sporting director Gianluca Nani has told the Italian media Walter Mazzarri is doing well with the Premier League club. Mazzarri was installed as the Watford manager in the summer after the departure of Quique Sánchez Flores at the end of last season.
The Italian believes Mazzarri can improve Watford even further, and that he’s a good example of an Italian coach working abroad.
“I think he’s an excellent coach, his Watford remains in line with his programmes, he can do even better. When we export coaches we do it well,” said the former Watford man.
Mazzarri arrived in England with a good reputation after managing the likes of Napoli and Inter Milan in Serie A. Watford have made a steady start in the first half of the season, and are currently 13th in the table, seven points away from the drop zone.
Mazzarri’s success at Watford, Claudio Ranieri winning the Premier League, and Antonio Conte starting off so well at Chelsea have all made Italian football, and the Italian media, proud of their compatriots’ achievements in England.
