Manchester United owned player Andreas Pereira could possibly be punished for not complying the quarantine rules in Brazil.
The Red Devils allowed the midfielder to join Flamengo on a season-long loan deal on August 20th and more than a week later, he made his debut for them against Santos.
Pereira registered an assist on his debut as Flamengo earned a 4-0 win over Santos.
According to ESPN, Santos requested Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva [STJD] in September to investigate whether the 25-year-old underwent a 14-day quarantine upon his arrival in the country from the United Kingdom.
As per the report, both Pereira and Flamengo can be punished by STJD, if there was any ‘non-compliance’ from the two parties in not following the guidelines set by the government there.
STJD’s official website issued a press release on Friday, titled: ‘Flamengo and Andreas denounced’.
In a statement, STJD said: “Flamengo and Andreas Pereira will be judged next Friday, October 8th, by the Fifth Disciplinary Committee of the Superior Court of Sports Justice for Football. The club was denounced for having climbed halfway before the mandatory 14-day quarantine period established by ANVISA Ordinance 655/2021 for travellers passing through the United Kingdom. The player will be liable for conduct contrary to discipline or sports ethics.”
If the ruling goes against Flamengo and the Manchester United man, the former will be fined. Pereira, on other hand, could be handed a ‘penalty’, which will include a suspension of ‘one to six matches’.
