Valentino Lazaro spent the second half of 2019/20 season on loan at Newcastle United and the previous campaign, again on loan, at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The Austria international’s contract with Inter Milan runs until 2024, but there were rumours of his possible sale in the summer window. A return to the Tyneside club was even mentioned.
On July 12th, Gazzetta dello Sport reported the 25-year-old was ‘negotiating a return’ to Newcastle and the Magpies considering signing him for good this time.
According to Calciomercato, Inter chiefs Giuseppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio were worried about the rumoured interest from the Premier League side and Benfica, but the player’s agent, Max Hagmayr, who met the officials of the Serie A winners, has closed the door on a potential departure from the San Siro for his client this summer.
“I had this meeting with Inter and I explained to them that Valentino wants to stay with the Nerazzurri. He is negative to Covid and will soon be able to join the group,” Calciomercato quoted Hagmayr as saying.
That should, at least for the time being, put an end to Newcastle’s hope of signing Lazaro again.
