Everton forward Richarlison has revealed he spent ‘all day arguing’ with the club to ensure he could play at the Olympics this summer.
Richarlison was added to Brazil’s squad for the games yesterday, with him called up to replace Flamengo’s Pedro after the Brazilian side withdrew him.
Whether he would be allowed to go to the games wasn’t known, with clubs not obliged to let players go, unlike with other international call-ups.
That is something that has already been seen elsewhere and was the reason the Everton man was called up after Flamengo withdrew Pedro.
It appears the forward has had his own way, though, revealing he spent all day arguing with the Toffees over his release.
“I fought there, right? I was arguing all day with Everton, with the manager,” UOL report him saying to ESPN after the 1-0 win against Chile.
“I also called the new coach. It’s very important for me to get this experience, to get more maturity because it will be important for me.
“When I heard the news that Everton released me, I came to the game even more happy to wear this shirt.
“Now, it’s about getting to the dressing room, celebrating with my teammates, because the game was very difficult too.”
