Ruben Vinagre’s future continues to be in doubt as clubs around Europe kick off their preseason campaigns.

The Wolves player spent the second half of last season on loan at Famalicão and fortunately it went better for him than his previous temporary stint at Olympiacos. He managed to make 20 Liga NOS appearances, contributing three assists in the process.

His performances in Portugal caught attention from bigger clubs, with rumours now ongoing for months about Sporting wanting to sign him this summer. Benfica were also credited with interest but that seems to have slipped away.

Saturday’s edition of Record reports that Sporting now have Vinagre as their ‘priority’, having completed some other early transfer business.

The Lisbon club are in negotiations with Wolves to take the player on loan next season, and they want a buying option.

It’s that option which is proving difficult to agree, with Sporting wanting the amount to be set at less than €10m, and the Premier League club likely wanting more than that.
