Leeds United are not close to completing a deal for Cagliari star Nahitan Nandez despite reports they’re set to pay his €36m release clause.

That’s according to Centrotrentuno, who back up claims from Saturday afternoon that a move to Leeds is far from being completed.

On Saturday, we covered a report from Calciomercato that stated while Marcelo Bielsa’s side are keen on Nandez, there was still a lot of work left for the deal to happen.

Centrotrentuno have the same information, stating that Bielsa’s admiration for the player has been known for some time, as has the ‘friendly relationship’ between Andrea Radrizzani and Rossoblù owner Tommaso Giulini.

A deal is possible because of those things, but according to their information, which comes straight from Yorkshire, the ‘road would be long and not all downhill’ to a deal.

They state that a move is a possibility for Nandez and a deal is ‘alive’, but it seems difficult for the transfer to happen if Cagliari demand his €36m release clause be paid.

That makes it ‘complicated’ for it to happen in the next few hours, particularly as Inter Milan are still at the window as well.

They would provide serious competition to Leeds, as would Roma, who are also thought to be interested in the midfielder.

To make it clear, the Italian website states: ‘A possible deal, therefore, but far from closed. So according to information in our possession, which comes directly from Yorkshire. Leeds are indeed interested in Nandez, but we cannot yet speak of a deal in the details or even in the home straight. Indeed, the road would be long and not at all downhill.’

His agent is working to convince his client that Leeds and the Premier League is his best option, and that has given the media the idea a move to Elland Road is close.

In reality, though, it is far from being closed, with plenty of negotiations and haggling still needed for it to get anywhere near that point.
