Liverpool’s late quest for a central defender ended up being successful, with the arrivals of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak at Anfield.
However, it’s clear these weren’t the only targets the Reds had in the last days of the transfer window. Monday and Tuesday saw details emerge of the offer they made for Braga’s David Carmo, which was turned down by the Portuguese club.
And it turns out there’s also been an approach for Lyon defender Marcelo. The information was originally published by the English media and then confirmed by L’Equipe.
The outlet says the French side didn’t want to lose the Brazilian as they’ll already miss Jason Denayer due to an injury.
And the bid wasn’t good enough to convince Marcelo either. That’s because Liverpool only offered him a six-month contract, and he wasn’t interested in it.
Marcelo’s deal with Lyon expires at the end of the season, so perhaps a lot can happen between now and the summer transfer window.
