Politician Mauro Pili has been given a four-month suspended sentence for his role in setting up prison visits with Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino. The Leeds United chief was imprisoned in 2013 over his role in the Stadio Is Arena scandal.
Earlier today we covered reports from the Sardinian media the court would study documentation of the case, and that the prosecution were requesting a one year prison sentence for Pili. It’s been reported the prosecutors are unhappy with the verdict of the court, but also Pili who plans to appeal against his suspended sentence.
In total eleven were accused in their role with the Stadio Is Arena with charges including attempted embezzlement, unauthorised building and a non-compliance with the public authorities. Cellino himself was charged with attempted embezzlement for his role in the construction of Stadio Is Arenas.
