For the German sport media, nearly every time a player leaves the Bundesliga for the Premier League… it’s mainly about money.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that’s the slant Bild are giving on Robin Koch’s move from SC Freiburg to Leeds United. The defender, who has been called up for the latest German national team squad, said goodbye to his club teammates on Friday.
Bild state part of the reason for the move is Leeds offering a ‘mega-contract’. They don’t share the figures, but insist it’s a bumper deal lasting until 2024. Koch will ‘become one of the highest paid German central defenders’ when he completes the transfer.
Marcelo Bielsa has also been a factor, and Leeds United have used their manager, along with money, in ‘luring’ Koch to Elland Road this summer.
SC Freiburg are expected to receive around €14.5m.
