Being an agent isn’t all big paycheques and glory, especially if you’ve only been in the business a short amount of time.
Money may come later, but according to 27-year-old representative Tiziano Sorrenti, many have another job on the side to pay the bills.
Speaking to ArcInfo in Switzerland, the young (for the profession) agent described the path he took to get where he is now, which includes representing a Manchester City U19 player.
He explained: “We worked a lot on trying to improve his image. He wasn’t well known outside of his environment at Servette. We kind of ‘sold’ him abroad, speaking to many journalists. This improved visibility mixed with his exceptional performances allowed him to gain interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
“This summer, he joined Manchester City’s U19s and is considered one of the top ten best talents of his age in European football.”
Taking care of the football aspect of a player’s career, Sorrenti explained he also sorts out their sponsoring, like getting Pedro Teixeira, Neuchatel Xamax youngster, a deal with Nike, even if he only plays in Switzerland’s second tier.
Also working alongside Brazilian agency Think Ball & Sport Consulting, who represent, among others, Sevilla’s Mariano, Sorrenti appears to be on the right path.
And if Lorenzo Gonzalez breaks through the ranks at City, who knows who his next client will be?
