Tahith Chong to Werder Bremen has been a complete transfer circus over the past week. First it was reported the Bundesliga club were keen, confident of a deal being close, and would be taking the Manchester United player on loan for two seasons.
Werder spoke about it publicly, as did the player’s agent, and there were even suggestions the deal could be done by Friday. Then, in midweek, it was reported the German club were getting the ‘jitters’ and becoming worried they could be beaten by another club.
Manchester United were demanding Werder pay all of Chong’s wages, which seemed reasonable, but that was said to be out of the question. Friday15 saw a whole new level of optimism, as Bild reported Werder had won the wages argument, and Chong was on his way… literally.
Did that happen? Of course not, that would all be too straightforward.
Bild report ‘new problems have surfaced’, and, according to the information they have, the earliest a deal can be done is Monday. It all seems to be coming down to the wages issue, and despite Chong travelling yesterday ahead of an expected medical, the move could fail at the last minute.
Werder Bremen still have hope, but they clearly need to dig a little deeper into their pockets.
