Over the past few weeks, we’ve been reporting Inter Milan’s interest in Manchester United star Matteo Darmian.
The Italian international didn’t appear to be in Jose Mourinho’s plans until Antonio Valencia was ruled out for at least six weeks due to an injury. Darmian was immediately brought back to the starting XI against Burnley, and is expected to retain his place in the upcoming matches.
It’s reported Mourinho has decided to focus on Darmian, who it’s stated had already given his approval to an Inter switch in the winter window.
The Serie A side reportedly were keen on signing Darmian on loan, with the option to make it permanent for €13-€15m should he make a certain number of appearances.
Manchester United, however, wanted around €20-€22m for the 26-year-old, but it’s now unlikely they’d want to even sell him for that price.
Calciomercato say Inter haven’t given up hope yet, and the Serie A club want to keep the contact alive with Darmian’s representatives.
We’ve said several times before that a lot could change between now and the transfer window in January, and that’s exactly what has happened, despite the Italian media earlier reporting Darmian to Inter is almost done.
Darmian now has a chance to revive his career at Manchester United, and impress Jose Mourinho. Meanwhile, Inter Milan look on the verge of dispensing with another manager, with Frank De Boer expected to leave his post shortly.
