Southampton are interested in the Celta Vigo fullback Hugo Mallo, according to claims from the Spanish media today.
Outlet El Desmarque is the one covering the news from Radio Vigo which says the Saints are willing to sign the 29-year-old this summer.
It’s claimed that things are not advanced yet, as Celta Vigo are still to receive a bid from the Premier League side. However, Southampton have already made a personal offer to the player.
El Desmarque points out that despite Mallo’s importance in the La Liga club’s squad, they may feel forced to sell some of their players due to the economic crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The report makes it clear that there are no numbers on the table, so it’s impossible to even guess how much Southampton would pay for him.
Hugo Mallo comes from Celta Vigo’s academy, and has been playing for the club his whole career. He has a contract with the La Liga side running until 2022.
