Brighton and Hove Albion forward Alireza Jahanbakhsh is ‘unlikely’ to be a priority signing for PSV Eindhoven this summer.
That’s the opinion of Eindhovens Dagblad PSV journalist Rik Elfrink, who was responding to recent reports suggesting the Brighton man may be making a return to the Netherlands.
Jahanbakhsh joined the Seagulls in a £17.1m deal from AZ Alkmaar last summer as they looked to add extra firepower to support Glenn Murray, but he has endured a difficult first season in England, managing just ten appearances and two goals so far.
Over the weekend it emerged that a return to the Netherlands could be on the cards this summer, with Ajax reportedly adding him to their list of potential targets.
That was dismissed shortly afterwards as it was felt the Eredivisie club could not afford the transfer and Elfrink has added to that, believing he wouldn’t be a priority signing anyway.
“PSV will certainly do a number of things, but I don’t think it will be as busy as last season where you see eight or nine incoming transfers, I don’t believe that,” he told Eindhovens Dagblad.
“I think that is correct, that he (Jahanbakhsh) is really in the picture, but I cannot imagine that this has a lot of priority.
“You now have many attackers on board, including Madueke. You can’t bring him through too quickly, but you shouldn’t get in the way.
“You still have Bruma looking for a second chance, Malen coming back, Lammers is still there.
“Romero is also looking for revenge, that is a boy who comes here for the second time and wants to succeed. You also have Gakpo for the side. That’s quite a few players up front.”
