Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has revealed how the club is on lockdown amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Covid-19 outbreak has brought a stop to football across the globe, with all of Europe’s top five leagues now suspended until further notice.
The Premier League followed suit yesterday, electing to suspend their league until April after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tested positive for the virus.
His positive testing led Arsenal to isolate the entire squad, with those who had been in contact with the Spaniard potentially having contracted it also.
That’s saw numerous footballers locked in self-isolation for the near future, something Martínez detailed in an interview with TyC Sports.
“We found out about Arteta last night,” he told them.
“We had contact with him the day before and shook his hand normally, and the next day he tested positive.
“We are not allowed to leave the house; it is a government regulation.
“They gave us a diet from the club, but we are not allowed to leave the house.”
Recent days have seen the United Kingdom move to the ‘delay’ phase of it’s Coronavirus strategy as it continues to spread.
The country is yet to follow the example of other nations, with the situation not yet as drastic as in Italy, who have shut down the country.
Martínez sees that happening soon, though, believing by next week everything in the country will be ‘cancelled’.
“Only the supermarkets are open, but there’s no hygiene products,” he added.
“The schools and transport are slowly closing, and by Monday everything will be cancelled,”
