As is often the case, outspoken Steaua Bucharest owner Gigi Becali is the man of the moment in Romania, and he’s used his current spotlight to speak about a Rangers player.

The 61 year old yesterday confirmed he rejected Sheffield United’s €16m offer for Florinel Comen as he insisted he wanted €20m from the sale of Romania international.

Today he’s spoken to DigiSport about another player who’s currently dominating the country’s sport headlines, Rangers loanee Ianis Hagi.

Son of Romania football legend Gheorghe Hagi, the 21 year old made a dream start to his Rangers career by scoring against Hibernian on Tuesday night to keep Steven Gerrard’s title dreams alive.

Speaking about Rangers’ January signing, Becali said he expects the youngster to outperform Comen in the transfer market and he thinks he will worth a lot in the future: “I think he will be a great European footballer in the future. For me, he will be worth €100m in just two years.”

Rangers have the option to make his stay at Ibrox permanent for €5m and given Becali’s expectations of the attacking midfielder they could be ready to do business with his parent club Genk in the summer.

His performance against Hibs has hit the headlines in his home country, where it’s expected he’ll be key in Rangers’ Scottish Premiership battle.

Sign him for €5m, win the title, sell him in two years for €100m… it’s a dream scenario for Steven Gerrard and Rangers, but also an unlikely one.
