Burnley’s chances of signing forward Vedat Muriqi may have been handed a boost, with Lazio unable to match his rising asking price.
Kosovan striker Muriqi has been starring for Fenerbahce this season, with 13 goals and five assists in all competitions so far.
His performances have earned him attention from clubs around Europe, including the Premier League, with Burnley, Manchester United and Tottenham all named as suitors.
He was linked with a move to England in the January transfer window, with Burnley rumoured to have made a €25m bid for his services.
Calciomercato report that the suitors ‘continue to grow’, with Monaco, Lazio, Burnley, Aston Villa and Tottenham all interested.
There were ‘British observers’ at Fenerbahce’s last game against Trabzonspor, although it is not stated which club they were from.
Burnley are seemingly the keenest and made a €25m offer in January, although the Turkish side are holding out for €35m, with the striker tied down at the club until 2023.
Lazio are also on the hunt for a striker after missing out on Olivier Giroud last month, but with ‘the hunt’ for Muriqi getting bigger, it may end up ‘too much’ for the Italian side.
That suggests if the likes of Burnley were to continue upping their bid, Lazio might be forced to pull out of the race and turn their attention elsewhere.
