Valencia are assessing their options after receiving a negative response from their initial contact with Manchester City over Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo joined City in the summer transfer window in a deal with Juventus that saw Danilo going the other way.

He’s found the going hard at the Etihad, though, making just four starts in the Premier League to date.

That’s led to suggestions he could make a move away from the club, with Valencia, one of his former clubs, keen to take him back.

Reports have suggested that Cancelo has already given his okay to the move, although Manchester City aren’t keen on agreeing a deal.

The latter is the case, according to Super Deporte, who say that initial discussions between Valencia and Manchester City did not go well.

They report that the British team ‘refuses’ to let the player leave in January, despite the fact he is ‘ready’ to go because of the ‘serious possibility’ that his lack of minutes could see him miss out on Euro 2020.

This has forced Valencia to ‘rethink its strategy’ in case Manchester City’s stance ruins their plans to get a right-back in January.

While Cancelo remains the ‘big favourite’, they are now in an ‘evaluation phase’ and looking at other options just in case.
