Fresh off their promotion to the Premier League, Middlesbrough had a rather impressive transfer window this summer, bringing in some very big names that have served them in relatively good stead so far.
Trying to also bolster their defence, their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic was well documented in the press, and while it all seemed set (everything had been agreed), a last minute medical showed a desperate need for the player to have surgery on his ribcage.
According to Sport Bild, with the player now recovering, Dortmund are still keen on selling the Serbian defender, and would be willing to let him go during the winter transfer window.
This could be good news for Middlesbrough as the club never really got the extra centre-back they wanted, signing Callum Chambers on loan later on instead as an all-purpose stop gap.
With the problem now hopefully sorted, Boro could come back for another attempt in January.
