Earlier on Friday morning, L’Equipe ran with a story that Georges-Kevin Nkoudou had had a go at current Marseille manager Franck Passi, claiming ‘if he stays next season, I’m leaving’, which we covered here.

It seemed a bit odd, considering how long the 50-year-old has been at the club, but everyone just ran with it.

That is, however, until the player himself caught wind of the allegations he apparently made, and the Nkoudou was quick to call out the daily newspaper.

Taking matters public on Twitter, the player wrote: “Hey, @lequipe, you there?!!! Do you verify your articles before publishing them?? Passi is the MAN who supported me since I arrived.

“He was the link between the players and the manager at the start with Michel. Never in my life would I disrespect him and I never said this. Basically, your tripe… Enough”

N’Koudou was the subject of a very long and frankly tiresome transfer saga over the summer, and there was even a time when many thought deal taking him from Marseille to Tottenham would fall through.

The forward eventually signed for the London club on transfer deadline day, over a month after passing his medical, making his debut in a 30 minute cameo during Spurs’ 5-0 drubbing of Gillingham.

Note for English journalists: don’t get on his bad side.
