Every time Hugo Lloris gives an interview somewhere, there will undoubtedly be a mention of Mauricio Pochettino, such is the relationship between the two.
While the Frenchman was already seen as a good goalkeeper before the Argentine’s arrival at the London club, the former Southampton manager’s style of play allowed the now 32-year-old to improve aspects of his game other than shot stopping.
Now very good with his feet (mishap in the World Cup final against Croatia aside), Lloris believes Pochettino is doing everything right at Spurs, and is the right man to keep leading the Premier League side to bigger and greater things in the future.
He told France Football: “He and his staff are the ones who put us in the best conditions for us to do put out great performances. I have a strong relationship with him, both at professional and personal level. The chemistry was there straight away. I like his football idea, his personality. We grow together.
“I’ve been lucky to have great managers. Deschamps with the national team, especially. We have similar values, same principles, whether it’s about the game or off the pitch, as people”.
This ability to get the best out of his entire squad, no matter how shallow the depth is (look at last season) is what makes Pochettino one of the best in the business, which is why bigger clubs are always said to be circling.
For Lloris, this isn’t a surprise.
He added: “He has the perfect profile. He’s entitled to those very big clubs. Now, he’s part of a project. He’s shown a lot of loyalty towards Tottenham. He’s 200% involved into the club and the fans”.
That should reassure a number of fans who might have been worried, after all the rumours of Real Madrid (and even Manchester United) interest, that Pochettino is likely going to stay for a while yet.
But, as we all know, things can change very quickly in football, even if the manager is contracted to the club until 2023.
