Currently on loan at Saint-Etienne, Jordan Veretout decided not to play in the Championship with Aston Villa this season, and a move to back to France was sorted out.
Also of interest to Marseille, the French midfielder, who was previously something of a star for Nantes in Ligue 1, was interviewed by But! in his home country, where he revealed the details about his move to the Midlands.
He said: “At the start, there was only Aston Villa. I got the offer and went to Birmingham to meet the those in charge. When Leicester found that out, Ranieri called me and said: ‘Look, Jordan, I know you. I saw you when I was at Monaco and I’d like you to join Leicester.’”
However, the player’s transfer to the now Championship club was a bit too far gone to back out, and he’d seemingly already agreed to team up with Tim Sherwood.
Does he regret it?
He explained: “No. That’s just life… I discovered the Premier League with Villa, and even if it didn’t go well collectively, personally, I played 29 games. Of course, I would have preferred not to finish last, but that’s how it is. Who could’ve thought Leicester would have such a season?”
To be fair to him, when the season started, Aston Villa and Claudio Ranieri’s teams were predicted similar futures.
At least he’s now playing European football.
