The more the transfer window goes on, the more Dejan Lovren becomes a realistic target for Milan as the Serie A club’s search for a new centre-back continues.
Missing out on Ozan Kabak to Schalke 04, the Italians turned their attention to Juventus’ new signing Merih Demiral, for whom the league champions are asking around €35m.
Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday describe that fee as too expensive for Milan, meaning alternatives keep being looked at, and the name they continue turning to again and again is Lovren’s.
He’s cheaper, as Liverpool are said to want around €20m for the last two years of his Anfield contract, but he doesn’t quite meet the requirements they’re looking for.
Ideally, Milan would want a younger centre-back, hence their pursuit of 19-year-old Kabak and 21-year-old Demiral, while Lovren is 30, but we all know beggars can’t be choosers.
At the rate this is going, the Croatia international is looking increasingly appealing, and unless some sales are sorted out, Demiral remains an unobtainable daydream.
