With the Champions League about to start on Tuesday, European football is officially back, and this week’s Paris Saint-Germain against Arsenal appears to be the pick of the lot.
Ahead of Tuesday’s 7.45 kickoff, Paris Saint-Germain held their usual press conference with Unai Emery, and Marco Verratti was the one to join his manager to face the press.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed more freedom up the pitch under the new manager, even scoring a rare goal against Metz during their second game of the season (he’s only scored six in his career), and the midfielder was asked what he thought of his upcoming opponents.
He said, relayed by Le Parisien: “Arsenal are a great team used to playing in the Champions League. They have great individuals, very technical players. We’ll work as hard as we can. We know what they can do, but it’s easy to play these games. Everyone’s at 110%”.
It seems the Paris Saint-Germain players, who have the advantage of the home crowd this week, won’t need any extra motivation ahead of this game.
Both are challengers for the top spot in their group, and a good result for either side on Tuesday could set the tone for weeks to come in their bid for Champions League success.
