Despite being linked with a move to Bournemouth over the past few days, Simon Mignolet knows what his future is made of, he just doesn’t know where it will be yet.
Recently investing in the world of coffee with his brother, the Belgium international will have to wait until after the Champions League final to fully invest his time in that venture, while trying to sort out his future alongside it.
DH decided to go have a chat with Wouter Mignolet ahead of Saturday’s game, where they asked him about his brother’s future at Liverpool.
He made things very clear: “He wants to play and will need to change club to do that. Liverpool will need a good number two. They have one in Simon, but they’ll have to find a replacement. It’s tough”.
This decision comes after the player experienced ‘the worst season of his life’ during the 2017-18 campaign, as he was pushed to one side by Jürgen Klopp to play Loris Karius, whom the veteran shot stopper didn’t feel was ‘better than him’.
While the Belgian outlet explain Mignolet definitely won’t be at Anfield next year, the player remains unsure how difficult Liverpool will make an exit.
For the goalkeeper, staying in England would be the ‘preferred destination’, but his brother explained the 31-year-old could also end up abroad, just not in Belgium.
He said: “It’s not a realistic option for now and no plan has been made. A return to Sint-Truiden? Everything depends on the conditions, the club’s level and who the boss is”.
Beyond his playing career, Mignolet will obviously be keeping an eye on his coffee business, but he doesn’t want to leave the world of football either, as his sibling revealed the Liverpool goalkeeper had aspirations of being a manager or a director of football.
