Former Chelsea goalkeeper Marco Amelia is reportedly undergoing trials at Sunderland. David Moyes’ side recently signed Mika from Portuguese side Boavista, so another one would be curious.
Alternatively, Moyes could feel Amelia’s experience is more useful to his squad than one of the current young goalkeeper options.
Serie A side Bologna are also reportedly keen on Amelia, and Sunderland could face some competition. Nottingham Forest interest was reiterated in Italy on Thursday, and that could also be a solution.
Vito Mannone’s long term injury had forced Sunderland to sign a goalkeeper, which they did in Milka. Moyes also has 22 year old Jordan Pickford and 20 year old Maksymilian Stryjek as back-up goalkeepers.
Amelia has played for several clubs in Italy, and has also represented the Italian national team 9 times.
