Sunderland were forced to look for a new goalkeeper during the transfer window after injury to Vito Mannone. The Italian goalkeeper is expected to be out for at least three months due to an injury to his elbow.
David Moyes has been left with young Jordan Pickford and Maksymilian Stryjek, but reports in France suggest the Black Cats made an effort to sign another goalkeeper on the deadline day.
Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso has confirmed to Telefoot (via L’Equipe) that Sunderland tried to sign him, but he wasn’t too keen on switching clubs.
He said: “Yes, during the last moments, but it wasn’t the time. I returned from injury and there were other things to do.”
The 34-year-old spent a season on loan at Crystal Palace in 2001/12, but it seems he didn’t want to return to England.
