Cristian Romero isn’t a fussy guy.

The Genoa centre-back, who has become one of the club’s prized assets in recent months, sat down with Corriere dello Sport on Thursday to discuss his season so far.

Unable to play for the first team until mid-October, the 20-year-old was thrown in at the deep end, playing 90 minutes against Juventus, a club he dreams of joining, alongside many three others in Europe, including Manchester United.

The newspaper’s first question was about what he wanted from his career as a footballer, and his answer was a rather simple one.

He said: “Since I was a kid, I wanted to become a professional football, and I’ve managed that. Now, I dream of playing in the Champions League in one of the four most important clubs in the world: Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United. That, and to be a part of the Argentina national team”.

At just 20 years of age, there’s plenty of time for the centre-back to fulfil his dream of wearing the red shirt at Old Trafford, but there might be a pit stop in Turin first, as the Serie A champions have been heavily linked with Romero since before the January transfer window.

Nothing has been agreed, but they appear to be the firm favourites.

As for a future at Manchester United, a lot would undoubtedly depend on the direction the club wants to go transfer wise, and who their manager is entering the summer window.

At least now they know it wouldn’t be too hard to convince one of the better young centre-backs in Serie A to join them should they become interested.
