Spending over £8m on Alexander Sørloth back in January, Crystal Palace have yet to get the best out of the young Norwegian.
Handed just a handful of opportunities, all from the bench, in the Premier League, it’s clear the 22-year-old hasn’t quite fully convinced Roy Hodgson, even if, when called upon in the Carabao Cup, he has performed, scoring the winner against Swansea and picking up an assist against West Brom.
Called up to the Norway national team for the current international break following Joshua King’s removal due to injury, Sørloth had a chat with NTB, relayed by VOL, where he discussed his rather frustrating start to the season.
He said: “There’s not a lot I can do to turn things around. One goal may be enough. If I had scored against Tottenham, everything would be different. There are ups and downs in football. If you have something between the ears, then you can get stronger from it. I usually get in every fight and always do my best. That’s how I’ll continue.”
Despite putting on a brave face, the Crystal Palace forward admitted the situation he is currently in is ‘difficult’, but he’s just going to have to power through it.
It’s not the first time he’s been in this situation, as he pointed out he had a tough period during his time at Groningen in Holland, which he overcame, eventually signing for Mitdjylland in Denmark, which led to his move to Selhurst Park.
All he wants is a chance to show everyone what he can do when starting a game in the league rather than coming off the bench.
A couple of good performances for his national team and who knows? Roy Hodgson will definitely be watching.
