A few days ago we covered claims from Belgium regarding Jan Vertonghen’s injury situation.
It was reported the defender would be unlikely to feature again in October, and could even miss November’s international break.
Vertonghen had ‘felt something in his hamstring’ against Huddersfield Town the previous weekend, and it wasn’t the ‘smartest idea’ for him to continue in the match as things then got worse.
Tottenham’s medical team didn’t want to put a timeline on the situation, but believed he’d be out for at least four weeks.
None of this went down well with Mauricio Pochettino, who was frustrated the injury news was reported in Belgium, and Roberto Martinez spoke about it, before he’d had the chance to do so himself.
It’s not the first time there’s been disagreements between Belgium and Spurs over fitness and injuries, although that was mainly under previous manager Marc Wilmots.
Tottenham are said to be ‘sensitive’ about such information and prefer to keep everything close to their chest, releasing information as and when they desire. The newspaper says it’s a ‘Commotion inspired by the complicated nature of Vertonghens injury’.
Martinez won’t want to go to war with Pochettino, so this will likely be cleared with goodwill.
