Until Luisão finally joins Wolverhampton (or not), this transfer story will still be a big thing in Portugal.
On Friday, O Jogo has published a very nice chat they had with the Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, who played alongside Luisão at Cruzeiro.
“Luisão is too cocky (laughs), started to study English not long ago. The English football will be a great place for him, the Championship is a heavy competition, very heavy really, with 46 fixtures. But I’m sure he’ll arrive phisically prepared, he always took care of himself and has a lot of experience. Luisão is a true phenomenon, both as a player and as a person”, Gomes told O Jogo.
“Wolverhampton have history and now have been getting a strong investment. Luisão certainly knows all that and must’ve thought: ‘I’ve done everything at Benfica, I’m the man here, but I want something different’. It’s a týpical decision of a warrior. He’ll leave his comfort zone to seek a different challenge.
“But Luisão easily has a place in the Premier league. If he had spoken to me before, he wouldn’t have to go through the Championship, he’d have come directly to Watford (laughs).”
Despite all the excitement, the transfer isn’t being considered as certain by the other papers. A Bola claims that Luisão’s demands are considered to be too high by Wolverhampton. The player wants €2m net per season, which according to the paper, means the club would have to spent €4m per year considering the taxes.
O Jogo says Wolves didn’t like the leak of information, as they didn’t want the salary to become public, and now the transfer has the risk of collapsing.
